The programme system SIMU is an approved and efficient tool for the examination of all questions concerning railway operation. The operational quality can be determined for new timetable concepts or for a changed infrastructure by simulating the traffic run. A timetable without any disturbances will be simulated in order to verify the running ability. By adding disturbances such as initial delays or extra stopping times SIMU proves the stability of the operation run considering the initial disturbances. Programme functions include interactive timetable planning, running time calculation and timetable design. All operational tasks of a railway system can be considered (i.e. priority of trains, connections, rostering, reserves). Automatically calculated headways serve to solve all problems occuring when designing the timetable. By special evaluation and statistical methods the results can be visualized and provide basic data for the addtional planning process.
