By use of DYNAMIS precise running time calculations can be carried out for any track infrastructure. These calculations are the basis for using new vehicles as well as for timetables in case of new operating concepts or a modified infrastructure. DYNAMIS includes various modules calculating running time and energy but also processing and modifying traction-force-velocity-diagrams. Plotting features are travel line graphs, braking curves or velocity diagrams. 

DYNAMIS calculates the energy consumption for single locomotives, train configurations or whole timetables.This allows to determine the effects of energy-saving driving. The running times will be used for timetable design. DYNAMIS is also needed for the dimensioning of signalling installations i.e. for the exact determination of braking points, overlaps and location of signals. Further on, DYNAMIS considers curvature and superelevation when calculating cross accelerations (e.g. for tilting trains).

Input and editing of track data will be done by the track editor of SIMU VII. This guarantees that simulated data can also be used for running time calculation, and in reverse timetable design and simulation can follow DYNAMIS.
